- Messages containing known Spam or containing a virus are automatically blocked.

If a message appears to be Spam but the system can not be certain then delivery is allowed to proceed, however the system will clearly identify the message as probable bulk email by placing " [ SPAM ] " in the subject field. Allowing you the option to simply delete or review the message.

If a Virus is blocked from being delivered, the system will send you a message that a virus was blocked, what the virus was and who the sender was.

Blacklisting of Websites & Domains:

We maintain an up to date list of the largest and most aggressive known spammers.

Keyword Scanning of Incoming Emails:

Our scanning methods include a scoring system such that emails are scored based on a number of criteria. If the score is above a threshold, then that email is flagged as Spam. (Both the body of the message and the subject of the message are analyzed.)

Checksum Technology:

We monitor email traffic through the Internet and use checksum technology to keep track of the number of times a particular message has appeared on the Internet. If a message has appeared over a certain number of times, it is categorized as known Spam. Checksums of known Spam messages are utilized by the scanner to block Spam messages.

Message Authenticity Checking:

Several algorithms are utilized to verify the authenticity of a message. Some of these are simple checks to verify that the “from address” is authentic. Some are more complex relating to SMTP protocol.

Blacklists:

A list of Domains, IP’s, and email addresses known to send bulk email are maintained and updated hourly.

Rate Controls:

Utilized to stop denial of service attacks as well as dictionary based Spam attacks.
